Pachuca, Mexico – A shooting rocked the city of Tula in the central Mexican state of Hidalgo. Unidentified assailants opened fire inside a bar early Saturday morning, killing seven people and seriously injuring five others, police said.
Authorities reported that four people were found dead inside the La Rissacca bar. Three others died while receiving treatment at the hospital. Witnesses stated that an armed group stormed the establishment and opened fire indiscriminately before fleeing.
Federal and state security forces launched a large-scale manhunt, but no suspects have been apprehended so far. While fuel smuggling gangs are notoriously active in Hidalgo, an incident of this magnitude is rare in Tula.
The state security office reported monitoring tensions and clashes between local gangs in recent days. Mexican media outlets suggested the attack may be linked to internal disputes. These disputes followed the arrest of a suspected gang leader in the area.
Since 2006, Mexico has been experiencing a widespread wave of violence linked to organized crime. This wave has left approximately 480,000 dead, while more than 120,000 people remain missing.
