Jakarta, Indonesia – Indonesia’s Sumatra island has been hit by a new natural disaster
after heavy rains caused landslides and flash floods that left dozens of victims.
According to local authorities, the disaster resulted in the death
and injury of more than 58 people.
Meanwhile, search operations continue amidst Sumatra
difficult terrain and roads cut off by landslides.
Emergency teams are working to rescue those trapped
and evacuate residents from the worst-affected areas.
While weather forecasters warned of continued rainfall in the coming hours,
This increases the risk of further collapses.
Indonesia regularly experiences floods
and mudslides during the rainy season.
However, experts attribute its increased
severity this year to climate change.
Vegetation cover has deteriorated in some mountainous areas.
