Berlin, Germany – Germany on Monday expressed satisfaction with the progress made in drafting a plan to end the war between Ukraine and Russia, with German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadephul describing the ongoing talks between the United States and Ukraine in Geneva as a “decisive success” for Europeans.
European guarantee
Fadeful’s statement came in the context of work to develop a new and revised framework for ending the war.
This is a modified version of the 28-point peace plan proposed by former US President Donald Trump.
In an interview with Deutschlandfunk radio, Vadiföhl confirmed that European efforts had borne fruit.
He said: “All European issues, including those relating to NATO, have been removed from the plan.”
This is a decisive success we achieved yesterday.”
The German minister added, stressing the importance of the partnership: “It was clear from the beginning, as we have said many times,
No agreement should be reached without the Europeans and Ukrainians present or over their heads.”
Washington and Kyiv continue working
This German announcement comes after a new round of talks in Geneva that the United States and Ukraine described as “productive”.
Both sides confirmed that they are working on developing a new framework to end the war, believed to be an adaptation of Trump’s 28-point plan.
While acknowledging a “breakthrough,” details regarding key issues – including how to ensure Ukraine’s security from Russian threats – remain shrouded in secrecy.
Warning about Russian assets
Fadevol’s comments come at a time when Berlin has previously criticized the American proposal.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had criticized parts of the proposal in a previous interview with ARD.
