Baghdad, Iraq – Well-informed political sources revealed that the forces of the Coordination Framework granted the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki,
“full authorization” to manage the negotiations for selecting the three presidencies in Iraq.
Agreement on the name of the candidate for the premiership during the next phase.
According to reports, the candidate supported by Maliki is now
ahead of the other names being considered
Amid broad Shiite understandings that ensure his commitment
to preconditions set by the “largest bloc” within parliament.
Sudanese luck declined
Sources indicate that Maliki used his nomination announcement
from the Islamic Dawa Party to strengthen his negotiating position.
Although the goal is not for him to assume the position personally,
but rather to support his candidate who enjoys greater acceptance within the Shiite forces.
According to Iraqi newspapers, sources confirm that the candidate
supported by Maliki – who may be from outside the Dawa Party –
He achieved remarkable consensus after rounds of negotiations that
included defining the roles of Shiite forces in the next government.
Reaching outgoing Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani,
whose chances of obtaining a second term have diminished.
Discussion of the three presidencies file
The data indicates that Maliki headed to Erbil to meet with the leaders
of the Kurdistan Democratic Party to discuss the issue of the three presidencies.
This is on the condition that the name of the candidate for Prime Minister is announced
after reaching an understanding with the Kurdish
and Sunni forces regarding the other positions.
He also met with the head of the Progress Alliance, Mohammed al-Halbousi,
to discuss accelerating the steps to form the government.
Sources confirm that the candidate enjoys acceptance from Sunni and Kurdish forces.
It does not raise any sensitivities in either Washington or Tehran, making it a compromise option.
All scenarios are open
Although the candidate’s identity is “no longer essential” to the framework,
adherence to the pre-prepared political program is a prerequisite.
The framework stipulates that the next prime minister must not establish
a new party or compete with Shiite forces for influence.
This is in addition to addressing the worsening financial crisis.
Reduce public debt, contain popular tensions
and prevent any potential protests.
Despite the progress in the negotiations, all scenarios remain open
due to the complexities of the Iraqi political landscape.
