Cairo, Egypt – 39 out of 48 teams have secured their places in the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Only 9 spots remain open.
The remaining nine spots are scheduled to be decided in the coming period. Two teams will join from the intercontinental play-offs, four from the European play-offs, and three from CONCACAF.
The intercontinental play-offs for the World Cup will take place in March, with two teams advancing. The Democratic Republic of Congo will represent Africa, Bolivia will represent South America, two teams will represent CONCACAF, and New Caledonia will represent Oceania.
Four teams will also advance from the European play-offs, which will take place in March 2026 and feature 16 teams. These include the 12 group runners-up from the qualifiers, plus the top four teams in the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League who did not qualify directly for the World Cup and did not secure a place in the European play-offs.
Three teams from CONCACAF will also advance. The final round will feature 12 teams divided into three groups: Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala, Suriname, Jamaica, Curaçao, Trinidad and Tobago, Bermuda, Costa Rica, Honduras, Haiti, and Nicaragua.
