Venezuela – The New York Times reported that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro made significant concessions to the United States, granting Washington broader access to some of Venezuela’s natural resources. This move aims to ease tensions and avert the threat of escalation in the region.
The report indicated that Maduro is seeking, through this move, to alleviate the economic and political pressures his country has faced for years, particularly in light of US sanctions that have limited Caracas’s ability to benefit from its oil and mineral wealth.
The newspaper adds that this move may be part of unannounced understandings aimed at avoiding any potential confrontation, while opening the door to a gradual thaw in relations between the two countries, provided both sides continue to take further de-escalatory steps.
These developments come amid international warnings of escalating tensions surrounding Venezuela, particularly border disputes and regional pressures over energy resources.
