Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty held a series of intensive telephone calls to follow up on developments in the Iranian nuclear file. These calls included Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi.
Egypt calls for de-escalation and confidence-building
During his discussions, Minister Abdel-Aty addressed the ongoing cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding the nuclear issue. He emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to de-escalate tensions and strengthen confidence-building measures, as this creates the necessary conditions for continued cooperation among the parties involved.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the need to activate diplomatic solutions and resume dialogue to reach a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue. He added that the interests of all parties must be taken into account, in order to contribute to supporting regional security and stability.
The importance of dialogue within the framework of the International Agency
The discussions also touched upon developments related to the upcoming meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency. In this regard, Abdel-Aty emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue through multilateral mechanisms, as this is the best way to support the nuclear non-proliferation regime and enhance security and stability at both the regional and international levels.
International praise for Egypt’s peaceful nuclear project
In a related context, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, commended the efforts led by the President of the Republic, who seeks to expand the peaceful uses of atomic energy to support national development plans.
Grossi particularly praised the Dabaa nuclear power plant project, considering it a model of cooperation between countries and the International Atomic Energy Agency, and evidence of Egypt’s ability to implement peaceful nuclear projects according to the highest international standards.
