Moscow, Russia – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized the Italian government’s stance, asserting that it had shown a “sudden and easy bias” toward the hostile line adopted by some Western countries against Moscow.
Lavrov, in remarks carried by Russian media, said that Rome had adopted hardline positions. He explained that these positions were inconsistent with its history of balanced relations with Russia. He indicated that the sudden shift in Italian policy reflected pressure from within the European Union and NATO.
He added that Moscow remains open to dialogue with all European parties, but rejects what he called “political and media incitement” against it. He emphasized that sanctions will not change Russia’s firm positions.
Lavrov’s statement comes amid escalating tensions between Moscow and European capitals. This is due to the ongoing war in Ukraine and growing Western support for Kyiv in the form of weapons and aid.
