Ankara, Turkey – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced today that search and rescue teams have found the black box of the ill-fated military cargo plane that crashed in Georgia.
He confirmed that the bodies of 19 of the plane crash victims had been found,
while efforts are still underway to search for another missing soldier.
In a speech, Erdogan said: “The search and rescue teams have succeeded in finding the plane’s black box,
This paves the way for the start of official investigations to determine the causes of the accident.”
The Turkish president stressed the importance of continuing efforts on the ground.
He stressed the guarantee to uncover the circumstances of the incident in all its dimensions.
“External interference or ammunition explosion” hypotheses
This announcement comes amid questions about the causes of the accident.
The newspaper “Türkiye” had previously indicated the possibility
of external interference or an explosion of ammunition on board the military aircraft.
The newspaper added that the plane crashed “in the air,
and not due to a technical malfunction or landing error.”
This raises questions about the possibility of external interference
or an explosion of the munitions carried on board.”
The Turkish Ministry of Defense had published photos, names,
and ranks of the military victims in the incident.
Many countries have expressed their condolences to Turkey over this tragedy.
