Kabul, Afghanistan – In a new escalation of tensions between Kabul and Islamabad, Taliban government foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi
rejected Pakistan’s latest demands during bilateral negotiations.
Describing it as “unreasonable” and an interference in Afghan internal affairs.
Muttaqi explained in his remarks that one of the most prominent demands put forward by Islamabad
It is the transfer of fighters from the Pakistani Taliban movement (TTP)
from the border areas into Afghan territory.
He considered this to be “completely illogical”.
Internal problem
He added sarcastically: “Is it conceivable that Afghanistan
would bring this headache into its own home?”
We are not crazy enough to make other people’s problems our own.
The minister stressed that the Afghan government bears no responsibility
for the actions of the Pakistani Taliban movement.
He considered it “an internal problem concerning Pakistan itself.”
He called on the latter to resolve its security crises through internal political dialogue,
instead of trying to burden Afghanistan with the consequences.
Security issues Taliban
This statement comes days after tense talks between the two sides
that addressed security issues on their shared border.
Which has been witnessing frequent clashes for months due
to attacks attributed to elements of the “Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan”,
This is aimed at Pakistani targets launched from Afghan territory.
Islamabad accuses the Kabul government of providing
safe haven to members of the movement.
Kabul maintains that it does not allow any group
to use its territory against another country.
Increasing distance
Observers believe these statements reflect the growing rift
between the Taliban in Kabul and their Pakistani counterparts.
This comes after their relationship was previously described as close.
