Washington, DC – The US military announced it is closely monitoring North Korea’s launch of a new ballistic missile. The missile landed in the Sea of Japan, and the military asserted that this test poses a clear threat to security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Pacific Command said in an official statement that the United States “strongly condemns this provocative act.” The statement added that Washington is holding urgent consultations with its allies in Japan and South Korea to assess the situation and take necessary measures to ensure deterrence and stability.
The statement added that “the United States’ commitment to the defense of South Korea and Japan is unwavering,” noting that Pyongyang’s ballistic missile launches “violate UN Security Council resolutions and escalate tensions in the region.”
This latest test is part of a series of missile tests conducted by North Korea in recent months, in clear defiance of international pressure. This raises renewed questions about the future of the stalled nuclear negotiations and the potential US response.
