Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian authorities announced today that the capital, Kyiv, and a number of surrounding areas were subjected to a major Russian attack targeting vital energy facilities.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy stated that the strikes caused significant damage to power plants and distribution lines, resulting in power outages for hundreds of thousands of residents.
The Ukrainian government described the attack as “the most violent in weeks.” It also indicated that emergency teams were working to restore power and repair the damage as quickly as possible.
In contrast, Moscow has not officially commented on the operation. Russian media outlets, however, have reported “precision strikes against military targets and facilities supporting Ukrainian combat capabilities.”
The escalation comes at a time of growing fears of a new energy crisis as winter approaches. This occurs amid European warnings of dire humanitarian consequences if attacks on civilian infrastructure continue.
