Moscow, Russia – The Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow is compelled to send “additional signals” to the United States regarding the nuclear testing issue. This comes amid what it described as escalating threats and strategic tensions between the two countries.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov explained that recent US steps in developing nuclear weapons and expanding its defense infrastructure have prompted his country to “reassess its deterrence measures.” He affirmed that Russia will act in a manner that guarantees its national security without violating international agreements.
The Russian official added that Moscow is closely monitoring what he called American “nuclear provocations.” He also warned that continued disregard for Russia’s concerns could push it to take “experimental or symbolic” steps to demonstrate its defensive readiness.
The escalation in Russian rhetoric comes months after Moscow suspended its participation in the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. This occurs amid growing Western concerns about a renewed nuclear arms race between the two superpowers.
Observers believe these statements represent political pressure and a clear warning to Washington, implying that Moscow will not stand idly by if it feels the strategic balance of power is shifting against it.
