The enrollment of a number of Syrian students in Turkish military academies has sparked widespread controversy on social media. Opinions are divided between those who see the move as a natural integration of Syrian residents after years of refuge, and those who consider it a transgression of red lines related to national security and Turkish military identity.

Observers believe the issue is likely to escalate politically. Especially with local elections approaching, some parties are seeking to exploit it in their anti-refugee rhetoric.
