Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country is moving “confidently towards EU membership,” following the release of a new report from the European Commission.
This confirms the progress made by Kyiv in meeting the required standards for accession.
Zelensky explained, in a statement published on his official X platform,
that the latest European report “reflects a clear appreciation of the reform efforts,
Which Ukraine is making efforts in the areas of combating corruption,
strengthening the rule of law, and developing democratic institutions.”
He stressed that his country is fully committed to “complete integration with the European family”.
Roadmap
The Ukrainian president added that the recommendations contained
in the commission’s report “will be a roadmap for the next stage of reforms.”
He stressed that the Ukrainian government will continue
working on its implementation despite the difficult circumstances.
This is what the country is going through because of the ongoing war with Russia.
This report comes weeks before the European Union summit scheduled for Brussels.
European leaders are expected to discuss the possibility of opening
formal negotiations with Ukraine on full EU membership.
This is considered a pivotal step in Kyiv’s European path,
which it has been trying to achieve since 2014.
Brussels praises Ukraine
For its part, the European Commission, in its report, praised the remarkable progress
made by Ukraine in implementing economic and administrative reforms.
But at the same time she warned of the need to “continue working”.
To ensure the independence of the judiciary and to combat corruption at the highest levels.
This report is seen as a strong political signal from Brussels
in support of Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.
And to strengthen its European path despite the enormous security
and economic challenges facing the country.
