Bosnia – Authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina announced on Wednesday that the death toll from the devastating fire at a nursing home has risen to 30, including both fatalities and injuries. This incident is considered one of the most tragic humanitarian disasters to strike the country in years.
Local reports indicate that a fire broke out in the early hours of the morning at a nursing home in the eastern city of Zvornik. This resulted in thick smoke filling the building’s wings. Most of the residents were asleep and unable to move due to their advanced age.
Firefighters reported that they brought the blaze under control after several hours of effort. An investigation is underway to determine the cause, with initial speculation suggesting an electrical fault or a leak in the heating system.
The Bosnian government expressed its deep sorrow over the incident. It declared a period of national mourning and offered support to the victims’ families. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
