Tel Aviv, Israel – Tensions rose in southern Lebanon on Monday following an Israeli drone strike. The strike targeted a civilian vehicle on the Sharqieh-Dweir road in the Nabatieh region, resulting in two serious injuries.
Local sources reported that an Israeli drone fired a guided missile that hit a black Jeep traveling on the main road.
Severe injuries and critical condition
The shelling left two men in their thirties seriously injured; their condition was described as critical.
The injured were immediately transferred to the Al-Najda Al-Shaabiya Hospital in Nabatieh for treatment.
Context of the escalation and the Israeli response
This raid comes amid an escalating Israeli military campaign in the Nabatieh district. It is the third such raid in the area in just 48 hours.
Reports also indicate that Israel has carried out more than 27 airspace violations in the past week. This is occurring despite the ceasefire agreement signed on November 27, 2024.
The Israeli army has not yet issued any official statement regarding the raid. However, an unofficial military spokesperson told the Israeli news outlet Kan: “We are monitoring suspicious movements in the area. Anyone who approaches our positions is at risk.”
This raid raises growing concerns about the collapse of the ceasefire agreement and the escalation of air and ground clashes on Lebanon’s southern border.
