Tehran, Iran – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi confirmed that his country cannot stop uranium enrichment, indicating that the current halt is “temporary”.
It was a result of the damage inflicted on nuclear facilities by the recent attacks,
and not due to external pressure.
In remarks carried by Reuters, Araqchi explained that Iran would not abandon this vital program,
considering it a “national scientific achievement” that cannot be compromised.
He added: “We do not want to waste time on negotiations that do not serve our interests,
and what is not taken by war will not be given by politics.”
The Iranian minister pointed out that the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed
this week that Iran “does not appear to be actively enriching uranium at the moment.”
However, Tehran “retains all its technical and scientific capabilities”
that enable it to resume enrichment at any time.
In a related context, Araqchi considered the American and Israeli position
on the Iranian nuclear file to be “based on double standards.”
He stressed that Iran “will not submit to conditions
that infringe upon its sovereignty or national dignity.”
The minister also stressed that his country rejects any attempt to negotiate
its missile program or defense policies.
He noted that “Iranian disarmament is completely unacceptable.”
Araghchi’s remarks come at a time of escalating tensions between Tehran
and Tel Aviv following a series of strikes targeting nuclear facilities inside Iran.
Amid warnings of a new regional escalation if US
and Israeli pressure on the Iranian nuclear program continues.
