Cairo, Egypt – The Arab Republic of Egypt undertook intensive diplomatic efforts on Thursday to de-escalate tensions surrounding the Iranian nuclear issue. These efforts included telephone conversations conducted by Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs.

The Foreign Ministry stated that Minister Abdel-Aati held two separate telephone conversations. The first was with Abbas Araqchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister, and the second with Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The Cairo Agreement is pivotal

The discussions addressed the latest developments concerning the Iranian nuclear issue. They also explored ways to advance efforts aimed at finding peaceful and diplomatic solutions that promote security and stability in the Middle East region.

During the calls, Minister Abdel-Aati stressed the utmost importance of continuing effective dialogue between the Iranian and international sides.

The Egyptian minister stressed the need to resume and strengthen cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency. This was based on the agreement signed between them in Cairo on September 9th. This emphasis demonstrates Cairo’s pivotal role in fostering this rapprochement.

De-escalation: The minister concluded his remarks by emphasizing the need to intensify communication and consultations among all concerned parties in the coming period. The goal is to ensure de-escalation and achieve the desired regional calm.

These Egyptian moves confirm Cairo’s historical role in supporting diplomatic solutions to regional crises, and its endeavor to use its influence to ensure the stability of the region.
