Gaza, Palestine – Fadwa Barghouti, the wife of Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti, called on US President Donald Trump to work to secure her husband’s release, after Trump hinted in an interview with Time magazine that he might intervene in his case.
“Mr. President, there is a true partner who can help realize the dream of a just and lasting peace in the region,” Fadwa said in a statement published by the magazine. “Help secure the release of Marwan Barghouti for the sake of the freedom of the Palestinian people and peace for future generations.”
Barghouti, 66, has been held in Israeli prisons since 2002 and has been sentenced to five life terms. He is seen as a symbol of Palestinian unity and a supporter of peaceful solutions.
In contrast, Israel has emphasized its rejection of any foreign intervention, asserting that Barghouti is a “murderer” and will not be allowed to be sentenced or released. This development comes amid post-war talks in Gaza and anticipation of Trump’s final position.
