Washington, United States – The US Senate announced today that it will consider a bill imposing new sanctions on Russia immediately upon formal direction from the White House. The Senate emphasized that the move comes within the framework of full coordination between the legislative and executive branches regarding dealing with Moscow.
The House spokesperson explained that the Russian issue is of particular interest within Congress, particularly in light of recent geopolitical developments. He noted that any new punitive measures will be carefully considered to avoid harming American economic interests or Washington’s relations with its international partners.
He added that the US administration is closely monitoring developments in relations with Russia. He also stated that the White House will soon decide its position on the proposed sanctions bill, which includes the energy, finance, and defense sectors.
This statement comes at a time of heightened tension in relations between the two countries, amidst the exchange of accusations regarding European security and energy issues, as well as military operations in various regions around the world.
