BEIJING, China – The Chinese Foreign Ministry has renewed its warning to countries that continue to maintain official or unofficial relations with Taiwan, stressing that any form of political, military, or economic support for the island is a direct violation of China’s sovereignty and will not go unanswered.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that the “One China” principle is the political foundation of relations between Beijing and other countries, stressing that the Taiwan issue is a purely internal affair in which no external party has the right to interfere under any pretext.
He added that some countries are trying to “play it both ways” by strengthening their economic ties with China while simultaneously strengthening their political ties with Taipei, stressing that these dual policies undermine mutual trust and threaten regional stability.
Beijing emphasized that the “one China” principle is non-negotiable and indivisible, and that the island is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, calling on the international community to respect this historical and legal reality. It also urged them not to encourage separatist tendencies in Taiwan.
In contrast, Taiwanese authorities affirmed that they “will continue to expand their international relations without submitting to any pressure.” Washington, meanwhile, called for “restraint and dialogue,” noting that maintaining the status quo in the Taiwan Strait is the best way to avoid escalation.
