Tehran, Iran – The British newspaper “The Sun” reported, citing Israeli intelligence experts, that the Islamic Republic of Iran is working to rearm Hamas and is rebuilding its axis of influence in the region.
In a move that could pave the way for a new round of conflict with Israel.
Raz Zimmit, a former Israeli military intelligence officer, said that Tehran is exploiting the current situation to rebuild its strength. This comes after its proxy groups in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza were weakened.
He added that Iran “will never abandon its ultimate goal of destroying Israel and acquiring nuclear weapons.”
Zimmit quoted Ali Akbar Velayati, an advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, as saying that despite the losses it suffered in the 12-day war, Iran had gained new motivation to advance its nuclear program.
Velayati wrote in remarks on an Iranian television channel on October 10 that “the beginning of a ceasefire in Gaza may be linked to the end of ceasefires in other places, such as Iraq, Yemen, and Lebanon.”
In response, US President Donald Trump said the United States would disarm Hamas “quickly and even harshly” if it refused to give up its weapons. This comes as part of his peace plan, which calls for Hamas to hand over all its weapons to ensure a sustainable peace agreement in Gaza.
Zimit emphasized that “Hamas was defeated but not destroyed, Iran is rebuilding its strategic power, and the current calm is only temporary.”
Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement announcing its support for any efforts that include a ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces. It also called for the entry of humanitarian aid.
The release of Palestinian prisoners and the achievement of Palestinian rights, expressing its support for the Palestinian cause.
However, experts believe that Iran’s role in supporting armed groups, and Israel’s response to any potential threat from them, will be crucial factors in determining the political and security future of the region.
Iran’s efforts to rebuild Hezbollah in Lebanon
A recent report published by the French newspaper Le Figaro details Hezbollah’s secret efforts to rebuild itself. This comes despite its agreement to disarm in southern Lebanon.
It still possesses weapons in other areas of influence and continues to build its military structure with the help of Iranian agents and extensive internal reforms.
A Hezbollah member told the newspaper that the period of confusion following Hassan Nasrallah’s assassination was extremely difficult. The party remained in a “coma” for ten days, but forces in southern Lebanon continued to operate according to emergency protocols.
The report added that Iranian forces led by Esmail Qaani, commander of the Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, intervened quickly and worked to rebuild Hezbollah’s military structure within ten days, while the group’s political leadership remains unstable.
In its analysis, the Israeli website Ynet noted that Hezbollah is attempting to maintain its military strength and reestablish its presence covertly, doing so on Israel’s northern border.
Yedioth Ahronoth pointed to the competition between Iran and Western powers, particularly France and the United States, for influence in Lebanon, emphasizing that the Lebanese people are groaning under the burden of war and searching for stability and hope.
This report reflects the escalating tensions in the region and highlights that Iran continues to play a pivotal role in supporting its proxies and strengthening its power. This occurs despite international and regional pressure. The report has clear implications for the future of peace and security in the Middle East.
