  • Background of the earthquake

In addition, approximately 40,000 affected families benefited from this assistance.

This is from the devastating earthquake that recently struck the island of Cebu in the central Philippines.

It caused dozens of deaths and injuries, destroyed infrastructure, and displaced hundreds of families to temporary shelters.

In return, the delivery of aid was supervised by the UAE Embassy in Manila.

In cooperation with the relevant local authorities and agencies in the Philippines,

This is in support of the efforts of the Philippine government in addressing the effects of the natural disaster.

A humanitarian message and international commitment

Therefore, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) confirmed that this humanitarian response comes within the framework of the UAE’s humanitarian mission.

Demonstrating its commitment to fulfilling its international responsibilities towards peoples affected by disasters,

By alleviating the suffering of those affected and providing necessary humanitarian assistance to victims of natural disasters.

Accelerate early recovery efforts and promote stability in affected communities.

In this context, Mohammed Obaid Al Qatam Al Zaabi, UAE Ambassador to the Philippines, stated,

This humanitarian initiative reflects the UAE’s continued support for the Philippines.

Because of the depth of bilateral relations that have linked the two countries for more than fifty years.

Al Zaabi added: “What the UAE is offering today is a continuation of the established approach of the Emirati leadership,

Government and people, in standing by countries and peoples in times of adversity and crisis.”

Background of the earthquake

The island of Cebu was hit by a powerful earthquake that caused a number of casualties and injuries.

This is in addition to widespread destruction of residential facilities and infrastructure.
