Cairo, Egypt—Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with Engineer Sharif Al-Ulama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Affairs in Emirates.
The two sides discussed strengthening partnership and exchanging experiences
between the two countries in a number of areas of mutual interest.
The two ministers agreed to share and exchange experiences
in the field of energy efficiency and rationalization within the framework of the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance.
Launched by the UAE and comprising around 40 countries, including Egypt,
it serves as a mechanism to support financing and technological solutions and strengthen partnerships.
This is between countries, institutions, technology providers, and financial institutions.
This is to implement energy efficiency projects to rationalize consumption and reduce carbon emissions.
The platform for this alliance is scheduled to be launched at the end of next month.
Learning from the UAE experience
It was also agreed to explore the benefits of the UAE’s successful experiences in raising efficiency
and rationalizing energy consumption in government buildings and the industrial sector.

The meeting touched on the possibility of exchanging experiences
in the field of producing and extracting unconventional sources of crude oil and gas.
This comes amid the Egyptian petroleum sector’s interest in this field during the coming period
and the use of modern technology and incentive models.
This is to discover and exploit these resources, especially given the Emirates successful experience in partnership
with Total Energies in the Ruwais area to extract unconventional gas.
During the meeting, the Egyptian petroleum sector’s pioneering experience in launching the first sustainable jet fuel production project was reviewed.
This is done through the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company,
using used cooking oil as a production input.
This project is expected to generate significant returns in terms of supplying this type of fuel regionally and locally, in accordance with international civil aviation regulations.
First round table
Engineer Sharif Al-Ulama expressed the Emirates eagerness for Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, to attend and participate in the World Government Summit in the UAE.
This will be the first roundtable of the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance, which the minister welcomed.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS),
First Deputy Ministers and Deputy Ministers for Production, Safety, Environment, Energy Efficiency, Climate, Agreements, Exploration,
and Financial Affairs, and the Director General of the Technical Office.
