MEXICO, Mexico – Floods caused by heavy rains this week in Mexico have killed more than 40 people.

It also caused significant damage and a number of casualties, according to local authorities.

Mexican civil defense authorities reported heavy rains in 31 of the 32 states.

This caused floods that flooded entire villages, washed away roads, and caused landslides.

About ten thousand soldiers were deployed. They used boats, helicopters, and excavators to clean roads. Their mission was to rescue stranded residents and deliver food to the affected areas.

Many villages remain isolated, with aid workers making desperate efforts to reach them.

Meteorologists warned against expecting more rain.

As the soil is already saturated with water, the risk of further landslides increases.

Mexico’s National Coordination Agency for Civil Protection confirmed that as of Saturday, heavy rains had killed 16 people in Hidalgo state, north of Mexico City. In addition, power had been cut off in 150 communities there.

At least nine people were also killed in Puebla state, east of Mexico City. Moreover, more than 16,000 homes were damaged or destroyed.

There were also 15 deaths in Veracruz state. The army and navy helped rescue residents from 42 communities isolated by landslides on roads and river flows.

Authorities said they were searching for 27 missing people across the region.

Mexico is witnessing the end of the annual rainy season, which lasts about six months. It usually ends in early November (November).
