Strasbourg – Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that the Trump Roadmap for International Peace and Prosperity is a sensitive strategic initiative. It cannot be pursued without clear bilateral agreement between Yerevan and Washington. He emphasized that any accession by a third party, including the European Union, requires the joint consent of both sides.
During a press conference in Strasbourg, Pashinyan made it clear. The European Union remains a reliable partner for his country. However, he clearly indicated that the participation of Brussels or any other party in the project is subject to a decision made by Armenia in coordination with the United States.
He pointed out that the “Trump Road” is not limited to being a corridor between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Rather, it constitutes a broader framework for promoting peace in the South Caucasus. It opens broader channels for economic and political cooperation with the international community.
The initiative originated on August 8, when US President Donald Trump met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Washington. There, they signed a joint declaration on a peaceful settlement. They also established a new international corridor called the “Trump Road to International Peace and Prosperity.”
Observers believe the project could redraw the map of influence in the Caucasus region. It gives the United States a stronger position, while Armenia seeks to leverage the initiative to ensure its internal stability. It also seeks to strengthen its relations with influential international partners.
