New York, United States – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv is ready to end the war, but Russian President Vladimir Putin is not.
He added that there is a need for pressure on Russia to end the war, especially from US President Donald Trump.
Zelensky also expressed earlier on Tuesday his belief that Washington would work to “push Russia towards peace”.
This came shortly after Trump said that Kiev was “in a position” to regain all the territory it lost to Moscow.
A major shift in the American position
Trump’s statements on his Truth Social platform appear to represent a major shift in his view of the war launched by Russia about three and a half years ago.
It came after his meeting with Zelensky on the sidelines of the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
“I just met with President Trump, and we talked about how to finally bring peace, and we discussed some good ideas, and I hope they work,” Zelensky said during a UN Security Council meeting in New York.
He continued, saying: “I am grateful for this meeting, and we expect that US measures will push Russia towards peace”. Moscow fears America and always pays attention to it.
Trump, who has repeatedly indicated that Kiev may have to make concessions to end the war, wrote in his post that he believes that “Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight, win and restore all of Ukraine in its original form”.
It should be noted that Russia currently controls about a fifth of Ukrainian territory, including the Crimean Peninsula on the Black Sea.
