New York, United States – Syrian Transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa said on Tuesday that Israel must return to what it was before December 8, 2024.

He stressed that it is not in anyone’s interest for Syria to return to the previous scene.

Al-Sharaa added: “Israel must return to what it was before December 8, 2024. We said we would not be a source of danger to anyone.”

“Syria wants to be at the same distance from everyone,” he continued. It is in no one’s interest for Syria to return to the previous scene.

He stressed that “the success of any agreement with Israel paves the way for other agreements. These agreements help spread peace in the region.”

Internal situation

Al-Sharaa said, “Syria’s stability is linked to its unity, and any attempt at division will generate serious conflicts.”

He explained, “Any talk about dividing Syria harms Syria first and neighboring countries, especially Turkey and Iraq”.

He stressed the need to implement transitional justice “without scaring people or making any group feel targeted.”

He pointed out that “since Damascus was liberated, one million people have returned to Syria. Also, Captagon exports have decreased by 90 percent.”

Kurdish file

Al-Sharaa said, in the Kurdish file, that “Washington can help the Kurds integrate into the Syrian state forces.”

Al-Sharaa also touched on the Suwayda file, saying: “In Suwayda, mistakes occurred from everyone. There are new efforts for reconciliation and uniting hearts.”

Al-Sharaa concluded his statements by saying that his visit to New York is “the title of Syria’s return to the international community.”
