Washington, United States – US President Donald Trump praised the “great Americans” who will buy the TikTok application, which is popular among young people.
This came a day after he discussed the deal related to the TikTok platform with Chinese President Xi Jinping in a lengthy phone call.
“We have great American patriots who will be bought by very special people, people who love our country,” Trump told reporters. They are very technologically savvy. Therefore, they will not allow anything bad to happen to TikTok.
gentleman
He also praised the Chinese president, saying, “American investors were ready, and the Chinese leader was a gentleman about this.”
When asked whether China would control the algorithms, the Republican president’s response was ambiguous.
Trump said: “Everything has been agreed upon. We will have very good control.”
The algorithm is under US control
White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt previously explained: “We are 100% confident that the agreement has been reached. Now all that remains is to sign it. The president’s team is working with its Chinese counterparts to accomplish this”.
He noted that Trump and the Chinese president discussed the TikTok file in a lengthy phone call a day ago.
Levitt also confirmed that “the algorithm will also be under American control”. She was referring to additional details about what the agreement will look like from the White House’s point of view.
Oracle takes over
The White House indicated earlier that technology giant Oracle will assume responsibility for the data and security of the application. The Americans will control six out of seven seats on the council to be established.
Meanwhile, the statement announced by the Chinese government after the phone call did not clarify what Xi agreed to. This was regarding the sale of the ruling stake in the app by TikTok’s Chinese parent company to avoid a US ban.
It is noteworthy that the algorithm is what determines for users what appears to them on the application.
US officials have repeatedly warned in the past that it could be vulnerable to manipulation by Chinese authorities in a way that is difficult to detect.
