Doha, Qatar – Qatar will host an Arab and Islamic summit on Monday, with the participation of a number of leaders and heads of state of Arab and Islamic countries.
This is to discuss ways to respond to the Israeli aggression on Qatari territory.
On Sunday evening, Doha witnessed a preparatory meeting of foreign ministers and representatives from 57 Arab and Islamic countries.
The meeting discussed a draft statement regarding the Israeli attack on the State of Qatar, which targeted the residential headquarters of a number of Hamas leaders in Doha last Tuesday.
During the meeting, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani called on the international community to punish Israel for its crimes in the region.
The Prime Minister of Qatar also announced that his country is continuing mediation efforts with Egypt and the United States to end the war in Gaza.
In this context, the draft final statement issued by the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit included several points.
According to the draft statement, the summit stressed that the Israeli aggression against Qatar and the continuation of aggressive Israeli practices undermine the chances of peace and threaten everything that has been achieved on the path to establishing normal relations with Israel, including existing and future agreements.
The draft statement rejected repeated Israeli threats that the State of Qatar or any Arab or Islamic country could be targeted again.
The draft also confirmed that the Israeli aggression against Qatar directly aims to undermine existing efforts and mediations aimed at stopping the aggression against the Gaza Strip.
Israel bombed a residential area in Doha last Tuesday, killing 6 people, including a Qatari security officer.
The death toll included Khalil al-Hayya’s son, Hamas’s most prominent leader abroad, and the head of his office’s staff. Hamas said its senior leadership survived the assassination attempt.
The attack sparked widespread international condemnation and rare criticism from US President Trump.
US President Donald Trump has described Qatar as an important ally of the United States.
He pointed out that Israel has freedom to deal with Hamas, but it must be careful and think carefully about who it will attack.
Qatar, along with Egypt and the United States, is mediating the ongoing conflict in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
