Islamabad, Pakistan – At least 12 Pakistani soldiers were killed on Saturday in an ambush by members of the Pakistani Taliban in the northwest of the country on the border with Afghanistan.
A local Pakistani official said: “At approximately 4:00 a.m., attackers stationed on both sides of the road opened fire with heavy weapons on an army and border guard convoy, killing 12 members of the security forces”.
A security official in the area also confirmed the toll, noting that the attackers had seized the convoy’s weapons.
The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for a “very complex attack” that allowed “the seizure of 10 machine guns and drones.”
Pakistan often witnesses bloody attacks by the movement, in addition to kidnappings of Pakistani security men.
On the other hand, the Pakistani army launches strong attacks against the Pakistani Taliban, killing and wounding dozens of its members.
