Geneva, Switzerland – Talks will resume today, Tuesday, between the European Troika countries – Britain, Germany and France – on the one hand. On the other hand, Tehran will also be part of these talks.
This took place in the Swiss city of Geneva, at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers.
European countries have repeatedly threatened to activate a “trigger mechanism” to reimpose sanctions if negotiations do not resume.
Tehran stressed that it would not give up its right to enrichment.
Hours before the start of negotiations, both parties continue to make statements.
Iran, through Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei, said that threatening the Europeans to activate the trigger mechanism would not be useful.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry indicated that all scenarios are on the table. Additionally, circumstances will change completely if the Europeans adhere to this decision, which it described as wrong.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also added that Europe’s role in the nuclear negotiations has gone from vital to destructive.
As for the European Troika countries, they anticipated the talks as “last chance negotiations for Iran. This is before re-imposing sanctions through the trigger mechanism”.
A diplomat involved in the negotiations said today that reimposing all sanctions on Tehran would not require the consensus of the five permanent members. These are sanctions that were lifted ten years ago.
The source added that the window open to Iran will be closed and nothing now hinders the re-imposition of sanctions.
