Darfur, Sudan – Dozens were killed on Saturday as a result of the continued outbreak of cholera in Sudan, especially in Darfur, amid the ongoing war there.
Sources reported that 33 people died in East Darfur state as a result of cholera, in a new wave of the epidemic spreading in the state’s localities this week.
According to medical sources, 15 people died from the disease in Abu Karnaka locality, east of the city of El Daein, including 9 refugees from South Sudan.
18 other people also died in the Shairiya locality, a new reservoir area north of El Daein, which is witnessing a continuous influx of displaced people coming from the city of El Fasher.

The Ministry of Health in East Darfur warned that the disease is spreading widely in a number of cities in the state.
International organizations called for urgent intervention to confront the epidemic.
Doctors Without Borders confirmed last Thursday that the country is witnessing the worst outbreak of the disease in years.
This comes as the war between the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by his former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, continues since April 2023.
This war led to the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of more than 13 million people inside and outside the country.
The United Nations recently warned that 17 Sudanese regions are now classified as at risk of famine, including parts of Darfur, the Nuba Mountains, Khartoum, and Al-Jazeera.
