Abu Dhabi – The Council of Muslim Elders strongly condemned the painful shooting incident that occurred in a school in central Turkey, resulting in several casualties and injuries. The Council expressed its deep denunciation of this attack targeting an educational institution, emphasizing that such incidents represent an assault on human values. Furthermore, the Council believes that targeting innocents in educational facilities requires a firm international stance. Accordingly, the rejection of violence and extremism represents a fundamental pillar in the Council’s discourse aimed at protecting lives and property. In this regard, the Elders are following with concern the repercussions of this incident on community peace.
Strong Condemnation and Absolute Rejection of Criminal Acts Contrary to Faiths
The Council affirmed, in an official statement issued from its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, its absolute rejection of such criminal acts that completely contradict the tolerant teachings of Islam. Obviously, these attacks violate all divine faiths, in addition to being a flagrant violation of international norms and conventions that criminalize violence. As a result, the Council emphasizes that crimes targeting civilians cannot be justified under any circumstances or names. In addition, the discourse of rejection of violence and extremism contributes to fortifying youth against destructive ideas that lead to such tragedies. However, there remains an urgent need for concerted security and intellectual efforts to eradicate terrorism.
Call to Promote a Culture of Tolerance and Solidify Values of Peaceful Coexistence
The Council called, according to the statement, for the necessity of intensifying work to promote a culture of tolerance and solidify the values of coexistence and peace among various societies. Certainly, countering manifestations of violence requires building a collective awareness that rejects hatred and sanctifies the right to life. Accordingly, the Council believes that education based on moderation is the strong barrier against extremism that threatens the security and stability of peoples. On the other hand, the rejection of violence and extremism enhances opportunities for constructive dialogue between different civilizations and cultures. In the same context, the Council urges educational institutions to adopt awareness programs that instill values of mutual respect and acceptance of the other.
Condolences to the Victims and Wishes for Recovery for the Injured
The Council of Muslim Elders extended its deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims who fell in this treacherous incident, and to the government and people of the Republic of Turkey. Obviously, the Council stands in solidarity with those affected in this painful ordeal, expressing its wishes for a speedy and full recovery for all the injured. As a result, the Council renews its call to the entire world for the necessity of standing together to create a safe environment that ensures the safety of future generations.
