Washington, United States – In an unprecedented experiment combining space and cuisine, NASA carried a dish of couscous aboard a spacecraft designated for exploratory missions to the Moon. This step comes as part of the agency’s program to diversify space food and test different meals for astronauts during long missions away from Earth.
Officials confirmed that the goal of introducing foods like couscous is to provide healthy, balanced, and energy-rich options, as well as to add a cultural touch from global cuisines, enhancing astronauts’ psychological experience and reminding them of home during weeks or months away from Earth.
This innovation is part of NASA’s efforts to develop long-lasting meals that preserve taste quality and nutritional value, in preparation for future missions to the Moon and Mars. This mission represents a key phase in testing astronauts’ ability to consume diverse meals under harsh space conditions, potentially opening the door to introducing foods from various countries on future space stations.
