Cybersecurity experts have revealed a highly sophisticated technique used for an iPhone hacking tool that operates silently. This tool is known as “DarkSword,” and it has been spotted in use by advanced technical groups targeting users globally. The danger of this tool lies in its ability to take full control of devices running “iOS 18” versions. Furthermore, the attack does not require downloading suspicious files or clicking traditional download links. Accordingly, it is enough for a user to visit an infected website for their device to become susceptible to immediate compromise. This new threat aims to access sensitive user data deeply without leaving a tangible trace.

Mechanism of DarkSword and Targeted Data

The “DarkSword” tool relies on a series of software vulnerabilities that allow attackers to bypass security layers in the “Safari” browser. Once inside the device, the iPhone hacking tool begins extracting stored photos, messages, and passwords. In addition, the tool specifically targets cryptocurrency wallets and encrypted messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram. Therefore, experts consider this attack a “hit-and-run” type, where data is exfiltrated and attack traces are destroyed within minutes. Reports confirm that this technique was recently leaked on open platforms, increasing the likelihood of its spread among minor hackers.

Threat Prevalence and Vulnerable Devices

Estimates suggest that hundreds of millions of unupdated devices remain at risk from this exploit. Analysts estimate that about 25% of iPhone users still rely on older versions of the “iOS 18” system. On the other hand, targeting campaigns have begun in several countries, including Ukraine, Turkey, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia. However, the leak of the tool’s source code means it could appear in any other geographic region soon. Consequently, the threat is no longer limited to high-profile individuals but has reached ordinary users visiting compromised news or service websites.

How to Protect and Prevent Silent Hacking

Apple has released emergency security updates to close the vulnerabilities that “DarkSword” relies upon. Experts emphasize that the only guaranteed way to prevent this iPhone hacking tool from succeeding is updating to “iOS 26.3” or later. On the other hand, users who cannot update are advised to activate the “Lockdown Mode” feature immediately. Therefore, caution must be exercised when browsing unknown websites, and automatic system updates must be enabled. Thus, technical vigilance remains the first line of defense against advanced malicious software. Finally, the tech community awaits more measures from technology companies to further secure user privacy.
