Rome, Italy – Italian authorities announced that a historic medieval tower in the capital, Rome, partially collapsed
during restoration work, trapping one worker under the rubble.
In an incident that has once again highlighted the fragility of
many historical landmarks undergoing maintenance in the city.
The French newspaper Le Figaro, quoting rescue teams,
reported that the incident occurred in a historic tower in the center of Rome.
It had been undergoing extensive restoration and maintenance work for months.
When parts of its ancient stone structure suddenly collapsed,
This resulted in the destruction of parts of the facade and injuries to at least one worker.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene to rescue him.

A Rome municipality official explained that the damaged tower is
one of the rare architectural landmarks dating back to the Middle Ages.
It was included in a broad program to restore historical buildings in the Italian capital,
with support from the Ministry of Culture.
He noted that investigations are underway to determine the causes of the collapse.

a weakness in the old structure of the building.
Technical sources added that the heavy rains that Rome has recently experienced
may have contributed to the deterioration of the foundations.
Meanwhile, civil defense teams confirmed that search operations are continuing inside the collapse site.

This incident comes after a series of warnings issued by heritage experts
about the risk of neglect and environmental pressure on historic buildings in Rome.
They called for accelerating the pace of maintenance in accordance
with modern standards that preserve heritage and ensure public safety.
