Alexandria, Egypt – The Raml Station area in central Alexandria has witnessed a remarkable natural phenomenon in recent days.

Which raised questions and concerns among some citizens.
Suzan Al-Gharbawi, Vice President of the National Institute of Marine Sciences and Fisheries, and Head of Group 5 of the UNESCO Global Ocean Observing System Steering Committee, confirmed that the receding sea water on the Mediterranean coast in the Raml Station area in Alexandria during the past two days is a natural and recurring phenomenon. It is not a tsunami wave.
Al-Gharbawi explained that tsunami waves occur as a result of a strong earthquake occurring deep in the sea. This is followed by a rapid receding of the water and then a sudden return with a devastating high wave.
بينما الظاهرة الحالية ناتجة عن عدة عوامل بيئية مثل المد والجزر وتأثير الضغط الجوي المرتفع.
She stressed that the situation is not a cause for concern.
