Dubai-UAE – The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) has awarded the UAE Media Council buildings in Abu Dhabi and Dubai the Building Humanization Certificate, making them the first buildings in the country to receive this advanced classification. The recognition comes as a result of the buildings’ full compliance with the new national standards for building humanization, which were developed by the Ministry as part of a pioneering transformational project previously announced. The building now stands as a model for providing a stimulating, healthy, and sustainable work environment. In a visit to the Council’s building in Dubai, His Excellency Eng Hassan Al Mansouri, Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Transport Affairs at MoEI, presented the certificate to His Excellency Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary General of the UAE Media Council.

The national standards for building humanization are the first of their kind in the region and serve as a reference developed based on international best practices in designing human-centric buildings. They address multiple aspects focused on users’ health and their physical and psychological well-being, including improving indoor air quality, increasing reliance on natural lighting, achieving thermal comfort, reducing noise, and encouraging physical activity. Additionally, they emphasize incorporating cultural identity and the local climate into urban design.

On this occasion, His Excellency Eng Al Mansouri congratulated the UAE Media Council’s leadership on this achievement, affirming that the development of the national standards for humanizing buildings marks a qualitative leap in the country’s path toward enhancing smart and sustainable infrastructure. He noted that the new standards establish clear foundations for creating more human-centric urban spaces and support the shift toward building cities that prioritize human health and psychological well-being.

He pointed out the Ministry intends to generalize these standards across all upcoming projects to ensure healthier and more sustainable environments, calling on all entities across the public and private sectors to adopt these standards, and to obtain the specialized UAE certification in this field—ensuring a more prosperous and sustainable future for generations to come.

His Excellency Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi said: “We are proud to be the first entity in the UAE to receive the Building Humanization Certification, the first of its kind in the region. This achievement reflects our commitment to the vision of our wise leadership, which places human well-being at the core of the development journey. It also contributes to achieving the objectives of ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision, which prioritizes quality of life and sustainability, and aspires to build a thriving society enjoying the highest levels of happiness, health, and environmental sustainability.”

He added: “We were keen to adopt global best practices and apply advanced human-centric standards, contributing to the creation of a healthy and motivating work environment within the Council. This supports both physical and mental well-being, promotes environmental sustainability, and positively impacts the happiness of our employees and partners, while also enhancing productivity.”

The Humanization Building Initiative is in line with the wise leadership’s vision of building future-ready cities characterized by efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability, and aligns with the goals of the ‘Year of the Community.’
