Abu Dhabi, UAE – The United Arab Emirates has categorically rejected Iranian claims and attempts to justify attacks targeting the UAE and several other countries in the region.

This came during Khalifa bin Shaheen Al Marar’s participation in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in New Delhi.

Al Marar emphasized the UAE’s unwavering commitment to its right to protect its sovereignty, national security, and independent decision-making.

He also affirmed that any pressure, accusations, or allegations “will not undermine

the UAE’s firm stances nor deter it from protecting its supreme national interests.”

UAE: We were subjected to approximately 3,000 attacks

The UAE Minister of State stated that since February 28, 2016, the UAE has been subjected to repeated ballistic missile and drone attacks.

These attacks targeted civilian facilities and vital infrastructure,

including airports, seaports, oil installations, power plants, and residential areas.

He added that the UAE’s air defenses have intercepted approximately 3,000 attacks.

He considered these attacks a “flagrant violation” of the UN Charter,

international law, and the principles of good neighborliness.

He noted that the international community has issued several condemnations and international resolutions against the Iranian attacks.

These include UN Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2016, as well as resolutions issued

by the Human Rights Council, the International Maritime Organization, and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Warning of a threat to international navigation

Al-Murr accused Iran of obstructing international shipping and effectively closing the Strait of Hormuz.

He asserted that targeting commercial vessels and using the strait as a tool of economic

pressure constitutes “acts of piracy” and a direct threat to global energy security and regional stability.

The Emirati official emphasized that Abu Dhabi does not expect protection from anyone.

He also stressed that the UAE reserves its legitimate right to defend

its territory and citizens under Article 51 of the UN Charter

He further held Iran fully responsible for the repercussions of the escalation.

He affirmed that respecting the sovereignty of states, ceasing aggression,

and adhering to international law are the foundations for any genuine and lasting stability in the region.
