Dubai, UAE – The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, UNICEF, and the Children’s Investment Fund announced a new $300 million (approximately AED 1.017 billion) humanitarian partnership. This partnership will support the “End of Life” campaign, which aims to save 5 million children from starvation worldwide.
The initiative is part of the global humanitarian campaign launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It coincides with the holy month of Ramadan. Notably, the campaign aims to raise at least AED 1 billion to support international efforts to combat child hunger and malnutrition in the most vulnerable regions.
Funding life-saving nutrition programs
Under the new partnership, UNICEF will benefit from a joint contribution of $100 million from the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and the Children’s Investment Fund. Furthermore, the international organization will also mobilize an additional $200 million from its partners worldwide. This will bring the total funding to $300 million to support therapeutic and preventative nutrition programs for children.
UNICEF will implement these programs through its Children’s Nutrition Fund. The organization aims to expand the humanitarian response to address acute malnutrition among children in the world’s most vulnerable communities.
UAE affirms commitment to combating child hunger
Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Secretary General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, affirmed that the “Limit to Life” campaign reflects the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in spreading a culture of giving and humanitarian work. In addition, it also reinforces the UAE’s commitment to combating child hunger and providing basic nutritional needs for the most vulnerable groups.
He noted that the partnership with UNICEF and the Children’s Investment Fund reflects the depth of international cooperation in addressing humanitarian challenges. Moreover, it also contributes to expanding the scope of programs aimed at reducing acute malnutrition, which threatens millions of children worldwide.
Global movement to combat malnutrition
For her part, Lana Al-Wreikat, UNICEF Regional Director for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, affirmed that the campaign represents a significant humanitarian step at a time of alarmingly high rates of child hunger and malnutrition globally. She indicated that the organization will utilize its expertise and specialized programs to ensure that food and therapeutic aid reaches the children most in need.
Anna Hakopian, Chief Impact Officer and Executive Director of Nutrition at the Children’s Investment Fund (CIFF), explained that the new partnership aims to unify international efforts and resources to expand therapeutic and preventative solutions for malnutrition. This will contribute to saving the lives of millions of children and enabling them to grow up healthy and safe.
