Abu Dhabi, UAE – His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, received a phone call from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, during which they discussed the escalating military situation in the region. The two leaders discussed the serious repercussions of this escalation on regional and international security and stability, given the rising tensions. They also addressed the expansion of military operations in several areas.
Egypt condemns Iranian attacks
During the call, the Egyptian president affirmed Egypt’s condemnation of the Iranian attacks targeting the territory of the United Arab Emirates and several other Arab states. He described the attacks as a violation of national sovereignty and a direct threat to regional security. He also emphasized Cairo’s full solidarity with Abu Dhabi in all measures it takes to defend its territory and protect its security and sovereignty.
A call for respect for sovereignty and restraint
Sisi reiterated the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and to adhere to the principles of good neighborliness. He also called for the utmost restraint during this critical juncture in the region’s history, in order to help contain tensions. He explained that this could prevent the situation from escalating further.
Prioritizing diplomatic solutions
For their part, the two presidents stressed the importance of prioritizing dialogue and diplomacy as the primary means of addressing current crises. They also called for efforts to prevent the escalation of conflict, thereby preserving regional and international peace and security. They affirmed that this would spare the peoples of the region further humanitarian and economic repercussions. This call comes within the framework of ongoing coordination and consultation between Egypt and the UAE regarding regional issues of mutual interest. This cooperation is of particular importance given the rapidly evolving challenges facing the region.
