New York, United States – The UAE renewed its support for the comprehensive peace plan in Sudan, expressing its firm commitment to the efforts of the Quartet aimed at establishing an immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce, and ensuring the urgent, safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to various parts of the country.
She stressed that achieving sustainable peace remains dependent on a permanent ceasefire and moving forward on a credible political path that leads to the formation of a civilian government completely independent of the warring parties and extremist groups.
The UAE said in a statement before the UN Security Council, delivered by Ambassador Mohammed Abu Shehab, the country’s permanent representative to the United Nations, that we categorically reject the repetition of baseless allegations against the UAE.
He stressed the need for the voices of independent Sudanese civilians, especially women and youth, to be at the heart of everything the Security Council does regarding Sudan.
“For nearly three years, the Sudanese people have suffered devastating conflict, gross violations of international law, and untold human suffering,” the statement said.
The statement condemned all violations of international law by the warring parties, including the deliberate targeting of civilians and the use of starvation and sexual violence as weapons of war.
The statement also strongly condemned attacks on humanitarian workers.
Including the recent targeting of a World Food Programme convoy in North Kordofan.
He said: “These violations must be put to an immediate end, and their perpetrators must be held accountable. Those who suffered from these horrors must receive the necessary care, including health services and psychological and social support.”
He added: “This is the third month in a row of Ramadan in which the Sudanese people have been forced to endure the bombing. This is the third month in a row in which the warring parties have ignored calls for a ceasefire and continued fighting with blatant disregard for the suffering of the Sudanese people, despite the condemnation of the international community.
Support the comprehensive peace plan
The statement noted that while hostilities continue in Sudan, escalating rhetoric from the warring parties is fueling further division, hatred and extremism.
He affirmed the UAE’s support for the comprehensive peace plan for Sudan announced by the United States.
He pointed out that it offers the best path towards a political transition to a civilian government.
The UAE statement said: “We commend President Trump’s leadership in working to prevent Sudan from sliding further towards extremism and fragmentation, and a more severe humanitarian catastrophe”. The quickest way to achieve this is to ensure an immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce, and to ensure urgent, rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian access to all parts of Sudan.
He also affirmed the UAE’s commitment to working through the Quartet dialogue, led by the United States, to achieve this truce.
