Washington, DC – A US official said that the next round of talks between Russia and Ukraine, mediated by the United States, will be held on Sunday in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
This comes as part of international efforts to de-escalate tensions and find common ground between the two sides.
The official praised the progress made during the past two days of discussions, despite their conclusion without a final agreement.
Speaking to reporters on condition of anonymity, the official explained that the meetings held over the past two days were characterized
by a high degree of mutual respect between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations.
Possible agreement
He noted that both sides demonstrated a genuine desire to find practical solutions to the outstanding points of contention.
He added, “We saw a great deal of respect at the meeting, and it was clear
that both sides are seriously looking to reach workable solutions.”
The US official indicated that the talks had reached a complex and detailed stage, necessitating
an agreement to hold an additional meeting on Sunday to advance the negotiating process toward a potential agreement.
He emphasized that US mediation efforts are ongoing and that there is cautious optimism
about the possibility of achieving tangible progress during the next round.
The UAE is hosting these talks as part of its growing role as a platform for international dialogue
and a trusted mediator in regional and international conflicts.
Trilateral talks
Earlier, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received the heads of delegations participating
in the trilateral talks between the United States, Russia, and Ukraine at Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi.
This round of talks comes at a time when the Russian-Ukrainian war continues to cast
a long shadow over European security and the global economy,
amid escalating international calls for de-escalation and the opening of political pathways leading to a peaceful settlement.
Observers believe that the continuation of the talks, even without an immediate agreement,
reflects the parties’ commitment to dialogue and keeps the door open
for diplomatic solutions despite the complexities of the situation.
