Abu Dhabi, UAE – Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP) has released its eleventh annual State of Travel Insurance (SOTI) report, revealing the safest countries and cities for 2026.
This report, reviewed by Voice of Emirates, is the longest-running study assessing American travelers’ attitudes toward travel safety and insurance. The UAE topped the list of safest Arab countries in the Middle East.
The Netherlands, Australia, and Austria topped the list of safest countries, while Reykjavik, Copenhagen, and Zurich led the list of safest cities. The report indicated that these destinations deserve travelers’ attention when planning their trips for next year.
The top 15 safest countries for 2026 are the Netherlands, Australia, Austria, Iceland, Canada, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Japan, Ireland, Belgium, Portugal, France, the United Kingdom, and Denmark.
The report noted that the Netherlands experienced a significant jump in the rankings, rising from 14th to 1st place, while Australia maintained its second-place ranking for the second consecutive year. Austria made its debut on the list. Among cities, Reykjavik took first place for the second year running, followed by Copenhagen, while Zurich climbed to third.

Our annual report not only highlights the safest destinations, but is also a valuable reference for planning trips with confidence.”
