Dubai, UAE – Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahhak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, headed the UAE delegation to the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly.
This came through active participation, through which the UAE strengthened its pivotal role in supporting global climate sustainability and resilience efforts.
The seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly was held at the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme in Nairobi, Kenya, from 8 to 12 December 2025.
It was under the slogan “Promoting sustainable solutions for a resilient planet”.
While delivering the UAE National Statement during the event, Her Excellency Dr. Amna Al Dahhak said: “We in the UAE are proud to adopt a pioneering development legacy based on sustainability, in a way that supports people and nature. This vision, instilled by the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him, forms the basis of our country’s firm commitment to preserving and developing the environment. We recognize that addressing global climate challenges requires not only ambition, but also concrete action and massive investments.”
Supporting the sustainability of water resources
During the “Special High-Level Meeting 2026: Water in Multilateral Operations”, the UAE affirmed its firm commitment to enhancing global water security.
In addition to innovative solutions to support the sustainability of water resources.
During the high-level event on global ratification of the Kigali Amendment, during the Assembly, Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, stressed the urgent need to gradually reduce hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which cause global warming.
He also affirmed the UAE’s support for this global agreement.
He highlighted the UAE’s strategic focus on environmental protection.
He reviewed the UAE’s efforts to implement carbon emission reduction targets across various sectors, to reach climate neutrality by 2050.
Driven by the urgent need to mitigate global warming, the country is actively working to phase out HFCs by 2047.
This is done through federal laws that impose strict reporting and permitting procedures for activities related to these vehicles.
Distinguished national cadres
In a related context, the UAE negotiating delegation played a key role during the preparatory meetings and the Permanent Delegates Committee, which preceded the launch of the main events.
Engineer Aisha Al-Abdouli, Director of the Green Development and Environmental Affairs Department at the Ministry, managed the national negotiation team.
It was distinguished by being a purely Emirati team, combining youth and the expertise of specialists.
Young national cadres, supported by technical experts, succeeded in participating in the negotiations and presenting the UAE’s balanced vision.
Which directly contributed to formulating and directing the final UN resolutions.
These intensive efforts, in cooperation with the international community, resulted in the adoption of 11 pivotal resolutions, covering crucial negotiating tracks.
