Lisbon, Portugal – Englishman Chris Wood won the “Rollier Algarve Classic” golf championship, the second stop of the new season of the Mina Golf Tour.
The tournament was held at the Acunur Stadium in the resort of Amendoeira, Portugal, and concluded on Thursday.
This is in light of the global spread of the tour, which is a pioneering Emirati initiative and the only entity in the region approved in the global rankings for golfers.
Wood won the title after finishing the tournament with a total of 16 under par, benefiting from scoring 5 under par in the final round with a total of 67 strokes.
The player, who had previously topped the qualifying rounds two weeks ago, achieved his new victory.
Scotsman Aidan O’Hagan finished second, one stroke behind, after finishing with 15 strokes under par.
Meanwhile, German Max Schmidt scored 63 strokes in the final round, which is a record on this field, advancing to third place with a total of 13 strokes under par.
The tournament witnessed a distinguished appearance by Ahmed Sakik, captain of the UAE national team, who is participating as a professional.
He gave his best result in his international participation in Mina’s tour, scoring 72 strokes at an average equal to the overall average.
He finished the tournament with a total of 4 strokes above average, an indication of his development and ability to represent the country in upcoming global events.
