Anjouan, Comoros – Anjouan Island has witnessed the launch of a new ferry service linking the islands of the Comoros Archipelago in the East African region.
It is the first service of its kind that also allows the transportation of people and vehicles.
The event was attended by President Ghazali Othmani, President of the United Republic of the Comoros.
This service will be provided by Sardal International.
It is a joint venture between Abu Dhabi Ports Group and Resources Investments. The latter is headquartered in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and specializes in strategic investments. These investments have a positive impact in emerging and developed markets.
The launch ceremony was attended by Juma Rashid Al Rumaithi, UAE Ambassador to Moroni, and a number of senior officials.
This project comes within the framework of Sardal International’s efforts to enhance maritime trade. It aims to expand business operations in emerging markets.
In addition to focusing specifically on the African continent.
To provide integrated solutions
Abdulaziz Zayed Al Shamsi, CEO of Sardal International, said that this step confirms our ability to provide integrated solutions for maritime transport. These solutions meet the needs of local communities and contribute to business growth. They also drive economic growth in the region, following the directives of the wise leadership.
The transportation services, whose operations will be managed by Nawatom Marine, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, aim to enhance connectivity. This will be between the region’s islands.
This is done by providing a safe, reliable and affordable means of transportation to local communities.
This contributes to improving access to markets, health and education services, in addition to revitalizing the tourism sector.
These services will be provided by the new ferry, “Maila”, which accommodates up to 190 passengers in air-conditioned cabins.
In addition to a load of up to 45 vehicles.
This service will connect the port of Moroni, the main sea gateway on Grande Comore, to the city of Mutsamudu. Mutsamudu is on the volcanic island of Anjouan.
This provides a faster and more reliable means of transportation. It benefits the archipelago’s residents and visitors traveling between the two islands.
