Cairo, Egypt – Informed sources at the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities categorically denied the veracity of the news and images circulating on social media in recent hours, particularly on the platform “X” (formerly Twitter), which claimed a massive fire had broken out at the Grand Egyptian Museum.

Sources told reporters that “all the rumors circulating about this fire are completely unfounded,” asserting that the images being shared are fake and were created using artificial intelligence. They added that the images are intended to generate views and increase online engagement.

The museum is operating normally and the public is visiting it.

The sources added that the Grand Egyptian Museum is operating normally. It opened its doors to the public today as usual and witnessed a large turnout of visitors, thus practically refuting the circulating rumors.

She noted that the museum’s great success within a few days of its opening made it a target for such “irresponsible and legally criminal practices” on social media.

Some pages had circulated a misleading post titled: “A huge fire at the Grand Egyptian Museum… This saddened me just a few days after its opening.” This post garnered more than 1.7 million views within hours, before its falsity was revealed.

The Grand Egyptian Museum: Figures and Achievements

The Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization — ancient Egyptian civilization — and is located on an area of 490,000 square meters near the Giza Pyramids.

The museum houses more than 57,000 artifacts, including items from King Tutankhamun’s tomb, displayed together for the first time in halls spanning approximately 7,500 square meters.

The museum is expected to attract around 5 million visitors annually, becoming one of the world’s leading cultural and tourist destinations.
